Alpha Blondy launches radio station

Ivorian music icon and pan Africanist Seydou Kone aka Alpha Blondy has opened up a radio station in Abidjan but the station will not be playing music 24/7. The F.M station is to help educate the young generation by encouraging them to read.

The reggae legend will be reading book chapters every evening live on Blody FM and by doing so, he hopes to entertain and educate the young generation across Africa.

Alpha Blondy took to Facebook to shed more light on his new venture.

“I want to eliminate this saying, (If you want to hide something from Africans, put it in writings) that’s why I opened up a radio station to tell stories from various books as well as giving tips on how one can become addicted to reading books.” He wrote on his timeline


The 62 year old music icon’s show Radio Livre or Book Radio will be aired every day in French.

The reggae super star started reading before he completed primary school, he told listeners in his maiden show recently one of the first books he read is 1933 Andre Malraux novel “Man’s fate”.

“I didn’t understand it but I liked it” Alpha Blody said.

In his nearly 4 decade career in music, Alpha has sold millions of records. He solely finances the radio station that will soon start airing children programs.
