HISTORIC: former leader Jonathan Goodluck hand over the reigns of power to his successor Muhammadu Buhari

Muhammadu Buhari, 72 has been sworn in the next president of Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, taking over from Jonathan Goodluck who had led the country since 201o.

Addressing cheering crowds of Nigerians from all walks of life in the capital Abuja, Buhari vowed to take on Boko Haram, an Islamist terror group that has unleashed a reign of terror in the North Eastern part of the country, and other  West African States

Buhari, former military leader of Nigeria labeled Boko Haram “a mindless, godless group, who are as far away from Islam as one can think”.

The new leader also assured Nigerians he will deliver “increased prosperity”  and aggressively tackle corruption, a vice that has plagued the Africa’s largest economy for years.

Today’s peaceful handover of power is a first in decades in a country that has seen most military coups on the continent
