Pie Ntavyohanyuma, Burundi Parliament Speaker who has fled the conflict-torn nation

Pie Ntavyohanyuma, the Speaker of Burundian Parliament has fled to Belgium. Source say he was against President Pierre Nkurunziza’s third term bid and was concerned about his safety.

The Speaker is the Second high ranking Burundian government official to resign and flee the country in as many days.

The Second Vice President of Burundi fled to Belgium, Wednesday telling the Paris-based France 24 television because he is opposed to President  Nkurunziza’s “illegal” third term bid.

He put the interests of the Burundian people before your personal interests.   “Withdraw your presidential bid, because it violates the constitution.”  Rufyikiri says in the letter he wrote to President Nkurunziza

He adds “I left … because I was not able to continue to support the attitude of the president, his desire to lead the people of Burundi on the path of illegality.”
