CHAN: Morocco humbles hosts Rwanda
International weather forecast predicted a rainy and cloudy afternoon Sunday in Kigali (yesterday), and yes! this didn’t only happen in skies but to the Rwandan national football team- Amavubi (wasps) who lost to Morocco 4 goals to 1 in the ongoing 2016 African Football Championships (CHAN).
Though Rwanda’s loss will not affect its lead position in Group A with 6 points level with West African giants Ivory Coast, the wasps put on a lackluster display at their home turf to the humiliation and dismay the huge fan base led by President Paul Kagame. The Rwandan side will face Group B winners.
The Moroccans, who are in the third place in the group, didn’t take that for granted as they scored one goal after another. They also maintained a superior ball possession throughout the game.
Moroccan strikers Aziz Mohamed (23’), Abdeladim el Mobaraky (38’) and Abdel G. Mouaoui (15’, 43’) sealed Morocco’s exquisite performance but they were still eliminated along with Gabon.
Rwanda supporters however have expressed fears their boys are risking elimination from the African championships even when the team had a good opening match against Ivory Coast on January 16, and last week against Gabon.
“Our boys should relax as they did today. This game is about points and goals, of which the latter can be a crucial decider in the advance stages” one fan, Emmanuel Ngabo said.
Rwanda will play Cameroon who just beat DR Congo 3-1 today at Huye stadium
