Five people taken into custody over New York explosions
Five people were taken into custody Sunday night in connection with Saturday’s explosion in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighbourhood.
The arrests followed a traffic stop conducted by the FBI and NYPD on a bridge between Brooklyn and Staten Island.
The explosive device in New Jersey and the one that caused the blast in New York City were both set off with cell phones.
Earlier, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio described the explosion at 23rd Street and 6th Avenue in Manhattan as “an intentional act.”
Security across New York’s five boroughs has been stepped up as a precautionary measure.
At least 29 people were injured in the attacks.
