ICJ has no jurisdiction in Kenya-Somalia maritime border dispute, Kenya says
A long-running maritime border dispute between Kenya and Somalia is currently underway at the U.N International Court of Justice at The Hague.
Attorney General Githu Muigai is lea
ding a high-powered delegation in a case in which Kenya accuses Somalia of defaulting on a 2009 agreement to resolve the dispute surrounding the more than 100,000 square km ocean territory, through negotiations.
The dispute has kept investors away due to lack of legal clarity over who owns potential off-shore oil and gas reserves.
Somalia wants the maritime border to continue along the line of the land border to the south-east, while Kenya wants the sea border to go in a straight line east.
