Sefue Ombeni, former Tanzania’s Chief Secretary has been fired

The President of Tanzania has sacked Chief Secretary Ambassador Sefue Ombeni, replacing him with the country’s high commissioner to India, Eng, John William Kijazi.

According to a press release of the State House in Tanzania, the former chief of staff in the president’s office will be reassigned other duties.

By press time, it was not clear why Mr. Ombeni was relieved of his duties. Ombeni had served as Chief Secretary since 2011, he previously represented Tanzania to the United Nations.

For the few months he has been in office, Magufuli has terminated dozens of high ranking government officials and scrapped various government program in an effort to rein in government spending and rid the government of the East African nation of corruption.
