At least nine officials of Rwanda’s ministry of Health have been arrested and detained over alleged mismanagement of the ministry’s funds through unlawful and fraudulent tendering process.

Among them is Nathan Mugume, the Ministry’s Director of Communications at Rwanda Health Communication Center Division, a branch of the ministry’s health communications department.

Others include John Jovith Maridadi, a Technical Assistant, Fulgence Kamali, Media Relations Officer and Richard Kampayana, the department’s accountant among others.

Rwanda national police has confirmed the arrest of the suspects but couldn’t divulge any details as investigations, arrests and detentions were still going on by press time.

Sources tell this website the suspects were involved in a tender scam in which they unlawfully awarded tenders using forged signatures and altered documents.

According to the prosecution office spokesman, Alain Mukurarinda, additional suspects are being investigated at the ministry although no arrests have been made yet.

“We have been investigating the case and the suspects. We have the evidence and other suspects will be arrested” Mukurarinda told local journalists.
