Rwanda booked a place in the quarter finals of the 2016 African Nations Championship after beating Gabon 2-1 in group A, taking them top of Group A with maximum six points while Ivory Coast moved up to second, with three points.

Ivory Coast registered their first points of the tournament with a 1-0 win over Morocco. Hosts Rwanda surprised the West African giants in their opening game with a 1-0 win last weekend.

Rwandan striker Ernest Sugira, who was named the Orange Man of the Match, scored twice for the hosts against Gabon in the 42nd and 47th minute respectively.
Gabon pulled one back through striker Aaron Boupedza in the 55th minute, but Rwanda maintained their lead to win the game.

The 4th edition of CHAN games which kicked off from January 16 will run through February 7, 2016 with a total of 16 teams scheduled to play in the tournament that will be hosted in Stadiums located in Kigali, Gisenyi and Huye districts.

The Rwanda National Police force has deployed heavily to ensure peace and security during the ongoing African Championship (CHAN) football matches which are currently being held in Rwanda, for the first time.
