Rwandan Ambassador to Burundi Amandin Rugira says they are trying to secure release of the 30 Rwandans

The Rwandan ambassador to Burundi, Ambassador Amandin Rugira has confirmed that at least 30 Rwandans who were arrested in Bujumbura under unknown circumstances are still missing.

Amb. Rugira was hesitant to divulge details of their arrest but told local press that the Rwandans were in a bus in in the capital Bujumbura upon their arrest.

The envoy also told local media they haven’t been able to establish the motive behind the arrests.

“We have identified at least 12 of the Rwandans but we are still investigating the cause and we have contacted the foreign affairs’ ministers to follow up the issue diplomatically” Rugira told the press.

This unexplained arrest of Rwandans comes a few months after a Rwandan journalist Etienne Besabesa- who worked for Radio Izuba, Radio Flash and Igihe.com was also arrested and charged for espionage before being released and allowed to return home.

Even with the increasing political turmoil in Burundi, many Rwandan transport operators still ferry passenger (Burundians and Rwandans) across the two borders.
