I’M OUT: Sepp Blatter

Barely days after winning the presidential election to head corruption-dogged world football governing body FIFA, Sepp Blatter has said he will resign and call for a new election to elect his successor.

On why he is leaving the job he fought hard to secure, Blatter said “”My mandate does not appear to be supported by everybody in world football”

The 79-year old Swiss has been at the helm of FIFA for 17 years, but the current corruption scandal rocking the organization has made his led many to question his leadership.

Last week, 2 days prior to FIFA presidential elections, the US Justice Department unveiled an unprecedented indictment of 14 officials, 7 of them were arrested in Switzerland and US demanded their immediate extradition.

US prosecution is alleging FIFA officials engaged in money laundering, bribes, racketeering among other charge.

Although US investigators did not implicate of indict Blatter, at the time they said their investigation was just beginning. Some analysts are wondering whether the US investigators were closing in on him.

Blatter has said there is no way he would have monitored every official of FIFA to know what they were doing at any given time, he has denied any knowledge of the rampant corruption at his organization.
