NEC forbids all candidates to be accompanied by huge crowds of followers and supporters.

According to NEC the decision was based on security reasons.

Four political parties DP, CCK, AD-TADEA and AFP have all been eliminated in the presidential race by the commission for failing to meet the set deadline and other requirements.

Now there will be only eight political parties in the race but of the eight, three parties; NCCR-Mageuzi, NLD and CUF, forming the coalition of people’s constitution (Ukawa) will be represented by Chadema

As per NEC’s schedule all aspirants for Presidential, legislative and councilorship were supposed to hand back the nomination forms by Friday, 4:30 pm and campaigning is slated for August 22 through October 24.

Tanzanians are due to go the polls October 25, this year to elect a new president that will succeed President Jakaya Kikwete.

Former premier Edward Lowassa’s switch to Chadema and UKAWA from CCM has sent shockwaves in within the ruling party, and pundits and political commentators say he poses a formidable challenge to the incredibly powerful and entrenched Chama Cha Mapinduzi.
