Besigye, who has been crisscrossing the country campaigning as he fights for FDC nomination with former Army Commander of the Ugandan military, Gen (rtd) Mugisha Muntu was traveling to Hoima for a campaign rally by the time of the accident.

His Campaign wrote  “this very car has been in the hands of police after they broke it recently.
It is possible that some liquid was poured on the tyre which kept eating it”

The police however, was quick to refute those assertions.

Polly Namaye, Deputy Police Spokesman told local media “what chemical was used to spray the tires? Police cannot stoop that low. We are a professional force. Every time we have arrested him we did it in public, we cannot harbour any intentions of harming the good doctor.”
