NOT GOING BACK TO WAR: President yoweri Museveni of Uganda

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has issued a stern warning to individuals he termed as “detractors of peace” saying they will be dealt with appropriately.

In his speech during the Heroes Day celebrations in Kiboga district Tuesday, under the theme ‘Our heroes; building blocks for a better Uganda’, President Museveni emphasized that the country will never be drawn back to war and anyone who tries to disturb the prevailing peace will face the brunt of the law.

Museveni’s statement comes a few days after the arrest of Dr. Kizza Besigye, the former Forum for Democratic Change party leader in down town Kampala on allegations of plotting to stage an illegal rally.

“The NRM government’s struggle to stabilise the country from civil war should be recognized, given the prosperity that Uganda has achieved, it would be a grave mistake for anyone to think that they can destabilise this country” the President, who spiced his speech with Bible verses  said.

In the same vein, Museveni also lauded the people of Kiboga district for being part of the key areas that supported the liberation struggle. He further said the district’s resolve to listen to government’s gospel on prosperity has paid off.

Citing Dwaniro Sub County which was one of the epicenters of the liberation struggle, Museveni said despite the war, the area has transformed economically unlike other regions which were not affected by the war and continue to lag behind.

Museveni directed Resident District Commissioner to follow up on gratuity payment of all veterans who participated in the bush war.  He revealed that government will also build houses for them. At least 972 individuals received medals from the President.
